E.U - Thrillers

Thrillers are classically thought of as the "edge on your seat" films that keep an audience thrilled and excited such as the film speed. But also the more recent dark thrillers are made to shock the audience and the thriller genre is starting to slip into the horror genre such as the films; se7en, aliens and the shining. most films these days can be classified as a thriller but it is hard to find any which cant be classified under anyother genre aswell. To me a thriller is a film that keeps me energised through the duration of the movie and i stay focused on the film all the way through.

  1. ye i agree the thriller genre is to some extent merging with the horror genre, since directors nower days presume people need to be kept on the edge of there seats during a thriller and an easier way to do that is to add an elementof horror to the scene, creating suspense and the buildup to something scary. This may have to some extent reduced the number of purely thriller films but i think that it is quite a positive thing, i quite like horror and thriller as a mixed genre, the suspense and terror caused by the horror film adds emphasis to the story line of the thriller and overall i think makes it a much better cinematic experience.

  2. i also agree with the original post - thrillers come across to an audience as a genre mixed with horror and drama and audiences are usualy glued to their screens and on the edge of their seets due to this. Examples of thrillers that i prefer include The departed,We own the night and collateral. These films were extremely entertaining throughout and the genre certainly contributed to the overall imersive experience.
